A very productive day of The Friend Ship workshops with Year 4 Avenue Junior children last week at Norwich and Norfolk Millenium Library.
The children explored the issues of persecution, identity, having to flee your home and the importance of providing sanctuary and a welcome to everyone. With 34,000 displaced people having to flee their homes every day at the moment because of war and persecution, they worked out that would take less than a week to empty Norwich!
The children looked at our universal similarities through portraiture and celebrated our differences through making books of the different countries displaced people are from. They explored the library archives to discover the contributions displaced people have made to Norwich historically and took part in story-sharing where they heard stories displaced people want to share with the world, then looked at having to flee and starting again somewhere new through creative writing and drama.
All work produced will be on exhibition in the Millenium Library during Refugee Week this June.
